We chose SeaSparrow as our home for our 2-year family sailing adventure. She is a 2006 Leopard 40 catamaran by Robertson and Caine. She came with the name, SeaSparrow, and although a lot of cruisers like to rename their boats to reflect themselves, we liked her name and felt it was part of her identity, so we kept it.
SeaSparrow is a charter version catamaran with four cabins and two heads, which means each hull has two cabins one forward and one aft and one head. The aft cabins have queen beds and the forward cabins have double beds as well as a small single cabin in the forepeak. When we purchased SeaSparrow the idea was for each kid to have their own cabin, but in reality, most of the time Owen’s room is used as a storage/tool room and he sleeps in the forward cabin in Hugh’s room. As a result, the kids have their own side of the boat, leaving the other side for the adults, it seems to be a compromise that everyone enjoys. We all enjoy the space that a catamaran offers, especially the outdoor cockpit area where we eat our meals and spend the majority of our time.
Furthermore, her sailing capabilities have impressed us many times over. In our opinion, Robertson and Caine found a terrific balance of performance and living accommodations with the boats of her vintage.
Here is a little video tour the kids made as part of their French homeschool assignment (with some English subtitles added by me, but you may need to turn them on in the settings). Hope you enjoy it.
