Ups and Downs

It really started to feel real when the first two crew members flew to Antigua this week!

These past few weeks has been full of ups and downs. We’ve been saying good-bye to friends and family as we prepare to leave for our big adventure. As excited as we all are it’s still hard to leave behind so many special people. Eryk also wrapped up 20 years at his job, and now he is officially unemployed, which in itself is a little surreal. Then Wednesday I dropped Eryk and Tia at the airport at wee hours of the morning, kissed them good-bye with knots in my stomach and they took off to Antigua.

In Antigua they are staying is a cute little Air bnb with beautiful views and right next to Jolly Harbour where we eventually plan to anchor. I am not going to lie, I did feel a hint of jealousy when the snow started falling this weekend that they are down there and the boys and I still here in Ottawa.

On top of leaving, what also makes this a big week is Eryk and Tia are working on finalizing the purchase of the boat. With the hurricane season officially passed the boat could be put the boat back into the water. Thursday they met the inspector and the seller at the boat in the boat yard for the inspection. Then they finished the day by watching as the boat was hoisted into the water. Friday they met up again, this time on the boat for the sail test.

Overall, the inspection went well, there were items found, which is fully expected with a twelve year boat. With boats there is always going to be something to work on, which we are fully aware and ready to take on. However, our inspector did discover one issue that we will need to resolve before we move forward with the purchase of the boat. As the week continues, we will figure out our next steps. We are speaking to the sellers, investigating options, and looking forward to the day we call the boat our own.

  1. looks so exciting, when we were in St. Lucia I thought about you a lot ever time we saw a catamaran. I can’t wait to follow your adventure.
